The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Office chairs the 51st Meeting of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Telecommunications and Information Working Group (APEC TEL51) in Boracay, Aklan from May 11-16.
Senior officials and decision-makers from 21 member economies and some 1500 guests will witness the official launch of the APECTEL Strategic Plan 2016-2020 which specifically outlines key action areas for APEC’s information and communications technology drive.
DOST-ICT Office Executive Director Usec. Louis Napoleon Casambre stressed the vital role that the meeting plays in the organization’s aim to establish an ICT ecosystem in the Asia-Pacific region that is characterized by an integrated, seamless, secure, trusted and innovative ICT infrastructure, services and applications where there is widespread use of ICT in all sectors, as well as improved ICT skills and digital literacy which will enable APEC to attain regional economic integration, transformation, and growth.
The week-long APEC TEL51 is jam-packed. Apart from the unveiling of the 2016-2020 Strategic Plan, heads of the national delegations will also present their recent policy and regulatory updates. Furthermore, different steering groups- Development, Liberalization, Security and Prosperity- will convene to share status reports. Finally, guests and observers will be invited to make brief statements.
2015 marks the 25th founding anniversary of APEC TEL.
